ChatGPT Saved My Arse in a Bangkok Police Station

The AI I have with me all the time is ChatGPT. Let me tell you about the time it properly saved my arse.

I was in Bangkok, had an Airbnb with some Chinese landlords. There was a massive disagreement because I originally said I wanted the place for a month, but then my plans changed and I needed to leave earlier. Normal stuff, right? Should have been a simple conversation.

But no. These landlords were being absolute nightmares about it and basically locked me out so I couldn't get my stuff. Proper locked me out. All my belongings were in there.

So the old bill came - the police. Now, my Thai is reasonably OK, enough to get by, but not great for legal arguments. This Chinese woman was being a total nightmare, and the police weren't exactly being helpful. They never are, are they?

My missus at the time couldn't help because our daughter was sick, and this is all happening very late at night. Proper stressful situation.

That's when I whipped out ChatGPT on my phone, right there in the police station. I started using it to craft proper legal-sounding arguments in both English and Thai. I had it help me threaten all sorts of official-sounding legal action. Made me sound like I knew exactly what I was talking about.

And it worked! That landlord backed right down. I got my money back that I'd paid, got all my belongings, and was out of there. Thank you ChatGPT!

This is why I always have it with me. You never know when you're going to need to sound like you know your legal rights in a foreign country at 2am. It's not just for writing blog posts and emails - it's a proper life-saver.

Since then, I've used it for everything from arguing with airlines about delayed flights, to explaining medical symptoms to doctors when I couldn't find the right words, to helping me understand contracts before signing them.

AI isn't just some fancy tech toy. It's a legitimate tool that can get you out of real-world problems. And that's why I'm so obsessed with this stuff now.
